Excelling at Australian Athletics Championships

Sam Montgomerie and Ben Prince, both Year 13, did us proud at the Australian All Schools Athletics Champs.

The event was held from December 6 - 12 in Adelaide and the boys were part of the New Zealand Secondary School team selected to represent New Zealand. 

Both athletes are coached by St Peter’s middle distance coach Ange Russek who was also part of the New Zealand Secondary School coaching and management team.

"Both Sam and Ben excelled in their performances over the three day competition," she said.

"The experience of racing abroad at their first international event and performing so well was a great way to finish their secondary school athletics careers."

Ben raced in the 400m, 800m and was a member of silver medal relay team.

Sam, who reecently won gold at the New Zealand Secondary School Championships in Hastings, raced in the 3000m and 2km steeplechase where he placed 4th in a strong international fielf with runners from China, Japan, Pacific Islands and Australia.
